Felicia James, MSN, RN, CPNP-PC, IBCLC

Felicia is a devoted mother, International Board Certified Lactation Consultant (IBCLC), and Pediatric Nurse Practitioner with over a decade of diverse clinical experience spanning pediatric medical-surgical care, pulmonology, emergency/trauma, primary care, urgent care, and school-based health.

Her personal breastfeeding journey began with significant challenges following the birth of her twins. Diagnosed with insulin-dependent gestational diabetes and undergoing an emergency Cesarean section, Felicia also navigated the complications of premature delivery, her babies’ extended NICU stay, latching difficulties, and one infant diagnosed with torticollis. Despite these hurdles, she was able to successfully breastfeed her twins through their first year of life.

This blend of professional expertise and lived experience fuels Felicia’s passion for supporting and empowering families—wherever they are in their feeding journey. She has provided lactation counseling in hospitals, outpatient clinics, and support group settings, always with a compassionate and evidence-based approach.

Felicia holds a Bachelor of Science in Nursing from Marymount University in Arlington, VA, and a Master of Science in Nursing, Pediatric Primary Care Nurse Practitioner track, from Johns Hopkins University.

In her free time, she enjoys quality time with her family, engaging in community service through her sorority, arts and crafts, and reading.

Once I left the hospital, I was on my own and had so many issues…

Felicia helped me through some tough times dealing with [breast] infections, poor latching, and producing enough milk. I just felt overwhelmed and defeated. She was very patient and educated me on so much! Gave me so many jewels that made nursing easier. [Felicia] also supported me as I advocated for myself during doctor visits. A lot of healthcare professionals are not educated on breastfeeding and what comes with it, but Felicia was! Soon I’ll be back to work and consulting with her on transitioning to nursing while being a working mom. I would definitely recommend Rooting For You Breastfeeding Counseling to any woman on the breastfeeding journey! I want to say thanks to Felicia! I got through it!
